The Last Jedi | Elite Series Wave 2 - UPDATE
Release dates for the second wave of the Disney Store exclusive The Last Jedi Elite Series figures were revealed a few weeks ago, and we have now seen the first 2 figures drop into stores!
Release dates for the second wave of the Disney Store exclusive The Last Jedi Elite Series figures were revealed a few weeks ago, and we have now seen the first 2 figures drop into stores.
The has been a lot of conjecture around how these figures were going to be released, causing a little bit of that plastic anxiety.
A few options include;
- A raffle system as seen in the past (OT and PT figures - 2015)
- Shipping in limited quantities
- A simple staged release to create a bit of buzz.
After seeing the first 2 figures drop and speaking with Disney Store employees I can now confirm a few Elite Series details. These certainly aren't being raffled off but they appear to be short shipped for the day of release (6-12 per store). Although they are shipping in limited quantities for the day of release, it looks like Disney Stores are continuing to receive cases of the figures after their initial release. So it looks like there shouldn't be any issues picking up the majority of these figures down the road at a discount. I will toss some caution towards the Snoke figure (December 5th, 2017) which may see a bit more attention from collectors.
Here is a look at the first 2 figures released, Chewy and Finn. The Chewy is a great looking figure and is scaled properly, requiring a larger box. The great sculpt and paint applications (not to mention the Porgs) almost made me grab this figure at full price. The Finn leaves a bit to be desired with a less then stellar face sculpt and overall falling short of the Black Series equivalent. I will defiantly be picking these figures up, but I am playing the long game to save a bit cash and spread the collecting budget around to more items!
Check out the Elite Series release dates below - up next Poe Dameron - Tuesday November 7th, 2017!
Chewbacca with Porgs - October 27th, 2017
Finn (First Order Disguise) - October 31st, 2017

C-3PO - November 21st, 2017

Marvel will be expanding The Last Jedi comic series with Star Wars: The Last Jedi - DJ #1 coming January 31st, 2018. CBR.com dropped the news that was later confirmed on The Star Wars show, that the mysterious DJ will have his backstory expanded in a one-shot comic detailing a day in his life just before the events of The Last Jedi.
The writing duo behind Star Wars: The Last Jedi - DJ #1, Ben Acker and Ben Blacker, are also writing Star Wars: The Last Jedi - The Storms of Crait and it looks like the pair will be the voice of the post-The Last Jedi canonical expansion. I am excited for Marvel's step towards one-shot comics to give us a little more depth on new characters!

Today at the NYCC 2017 Lucasfilm Publishing Panel Timothy Zahn announced that he will be following up this years novel Star Wars: Thrawn with a sequel titled Star Wars: Thrawn Alliances featuring Darth Vader! #BlackandBlue
To my knowledge Thrawn and Vader did not have any significant interactions in the Legends stories and we have yet to see them cross paths in the new Star Wars canon. I’m very excited for Timothy Zahn to continue the story of Thrawn and explore the dynamic of an Empire with Thrawn, Vader, Tarkin, and Krennic all vying for the Emperor's favour. Expect the new book to hit shelves in summer of 2018!
We are going to see Thrawn next in the final season of Star Wars: Rebels kicking off on October 16th and in the six-issue comicbook adaptation of Star Wars: Thrawn coming this February.

Hasbro has also showed off the new Arch-to Rey which joins an already deep line of The Last Jedi 6" action figures. The sculpts on these new figures continue to set the Black Series apart from any other line at this price point and I can't wait to get my hands on them!
4-LOM and Dengar join the Black Series bounty hunter ranks alongside Boba Fett, Bossk and IG-88, only leaving Zuckuss to complete out the ESB crew.
These figures are due to drop sometime in 2018!

Wave 3 of TLJ Black Series will be hitting shelves sometime this fall and we now know the case ratio and repacks for the final 6" wave before The Last Jedi hits theaters.
Wave 3 will bring us three new 6” figures; Snoke, Rose, and the 2016 fan choice figure Jaina Solo. Repacked in this wave are Maz and the Elite Praetorian Guard from Wave 2 and Jedi Master Luke, Rey, and Kylo Ren from Wave 1.

The repacks in this wave alleviate some of the hunt anxiety around figures that may have been more difficult to find in wave 2. The Maz and Elite Praetorian Guard figures should now become much more attainable at retail as we will see them in two consecutive waves! With the Wave 3 repacks, the General Leia figure becomes the big prize in Wave 2, so grab it if you can!
The Last Jedi Black Series Wave 2
Maz, Force Order Disguise Finn, Elite Praetorian Guard, Kylo Ren, General Leia, Poe Dameron, and repacks ESB Snowtrooper, and AT-AT Driver.

My predication for Wave 3 is that all three of the single packed new figures will be hard to find, with the Jania Solo playing a lot like the Revan figure (near impossible to get at retail). The fan choice Legends figures run like a short packed exclusive making them extremely difficult to find at retail. We probably will not see another iteration of this character in plastic form for a long time, if ever and because of that I would expect this to be the most coveted figure in Wave 3.
The Snoke could also prove to be a difficult figure to find out of the gate, but I could see him being repacked in a subsequent wave down the line. This figure can also be found as part of the EB Games/GameStop exclusive throne set, which at the moment runs $39.99 USD.
The Rose figure will be a bit on an enigma for Wave 3, she could really go either way. I doubt we will see her repacked in future Waves and the one per case leads me to believe that this may be a harder figure to find than others in the first two Waves.
Which figures do you think will be difficult to find in Wave 3? Let us know in the comment below!
As always, good luck on THE HUNT!,

The final season of Star Wars: Rebels received a poster treatment today! It was released on the Star Wars twitter account along with the tag line;
"All paths come together when #StarWarsRebels returns to @DisneyXD on October 16"
The poster teases the battle of Lothal with Grand Admiral Thrawn and Governor Pryce looming in the background. The most interesting part about the poster the presence and placement of the wolf we saw in the Season 4 trailer. Looking much more ominous, the wolf looks poised to play a much larger role in this season than I had previously expected or it could be that Dave Filoni just really wanted a wolf front and centre.
Look for my theory of the Wolf, Ashoka, and how it all ties to Ezra and Kanan's storyline later this week! Until then, marvel at the glorious final poster for Rebels!
What are your thoughts on Season 4 poster, and do you think the wolf factor into the final season in a big way? Let us know in the comments below!

Before TLJ ES figures dropped on Force Friday II, the remaining TFA and R1 figures were on sale for less the $7.00 CAD from $34.00 CAD. With the first wave of TLJ ES figures looking like they will be shelf camping in a similar fashion to the previous releases, I can really see Disney modifying how these figures are marketed and released.
It has not been made clear whether or not each figure will be shipped in limited quantities, but the release style seems to be very similar to the limited run of the six Prequel and Original Trilogy Elite Series figures that dropped between Force Friday 1 and The Force Awakens in 2015. With the 2015 limited release of figures a raffle system was set up and carried out each week with a only a lucky few getting their hands on the figures. This made the figures extremely difficult to get at retail and the exclusivity caught the attention of collectors.
I had previously suggested that for Disney to continue the Elite Series line they needed to repurpose it and focus on exclusivity and collectors, and it looks like TLJ second wave release might be a step in that direction.

Star Wars Anthology - Could This Become a TV Series?

This weekend I was listening to the /Film Daily and heard Peter talking about a Star Wars Anthology movie he'd like to see. What he said triggered a thought that might explain a couple of recent decisions by Disney and Lucasfilm Ltd. Read on for more...
Peter suggested that a Star Wars Anthology movie might feature short movies set in the Star Wars universe by top-tier directors like Steven Spielberg and Quentin Tarantino. Not a bad idea but not very likely as Lucasfilm seems set on a two, one stay structure. At least on the big screen.
Cast your minds back a couple of years to the announcement of the spin-off films and what header these movies would be released under. They were initially going to be called Star Wars Anthology before the dropped that name in favour of the somewhat weaker A Star Wars Story.
Then just a couple of weeks ago it was confirmed that Disney would be removing their movies from Netflix when the license expires and starting their own streaming service. Bob Iger recently confirmed that the Marvel and Star Wars properties would, indeed follow the Disney IP over to the new platform. Now, I don't know about you, but I'm not crazy about the idea of having another service I need to subscribe to for films I will already own physically. The only way they will get my subscription is to include content I can't get anywhere else. And hearing Peter talk about an Anthology movie on the /Film Daily had me thinking; What if Lucasfilm Ltd changed the name of the spin-off films because they plan to use the Star Wars Anthology title for a project on the Disney streaming service?
Could Lucasfilm be prepping a series of one hour short films set in Star Wars canon, to be written, produced and directed by top-tier talent? Talent who may have an interest in working on Star Wars, but cannot clear a feature shaped space on their schedule? I'm thinking of people like Ridley Scott, David Fincher, Kathryn Bigelow, Edgar Wright and Jodie Foster. All names I'd be interested in seeing tackle Star Wars, but in a one-hour format. Is this why Lucasfilm dropped the Anthology title from the movies because they are planning to use it on another platform?
I'd be interested to know what you think of this as a possibility. Would this be something you're interested in seeing? If so who would you like to see jump on as a creative? And which characters would like to see in a short form live-action setting? Sound off in the comments below...

Star Wars: The Last Jedi – Storms of Crait #1
StarWars.com has announced the next tie-in comic in the journey to Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Coming from writters Ben Acker and Ben Blacker with art by Mike Mayhew is a special one-shot comic titled Star Wars: The Last Jedi – Storms of Crait #1.
The comic will strive to create a connection between the Original Trilogy and The Last Jedi with the premise setting Luke and Leia in search of a new rebel base on the world of Crait. The era between ANH and ESB is where Marvel has focused the majority of their story telling since the establishment of the new canon and it looks like this comic will continue the narrative in that era. The description places the one-shot during the ‘Galactic Civil War’ but more specifically based off the cover art, it looks to be set before Empire Strikes Back. Luke is wielding the blue lightsaber which places it before the end of ESB, but I am guessing it is actually set before the establishment of the Rebel base on Hoth (0-3 ABY).
Star Wars: The Last Jedi will see the debut of the mineral planet Crait, as it becomes a battleground between the Resistance and First Order.
From the recently released book by Claudia Grey, Leia: Princess of Alderaan, we know that Leia has a history with the planet of Crait and that a Rebel outpost was set up there around 3 BBY. My current theory is that we will learn in this comic that the Rebels choose Hoth over Crait to set up their new base, possibly because of the events that transpire in the comic. Looking closer at the cover, it appears that there may already be an established presence on the planet which leads Luke and Leia to 'take up arms', as revealed in the official description. The events of this comic my provide some insight as to why Leia chooses to set-up a Resistance Base on Crait some 34 years later.
The one-shot comic will arrive in comic shops on December 27, 2017 just after the debut of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
Art by: Marco Checchetto
The familiar pop of red on the cover leads me to believe we may get a little more insight into the red mineral hidden beneath the salt-covered surface of Crait.
"Star Wars: The Last Jedi will see the debut of the mineral planet Crait, as it becomes a battleground between the Resistance and First Order. And a new story coming from Marvel will reveal major elements of its history."
"StarWars.com is excited to announce Star Wars: The Last Jedi – Storms of Crait #1, a special one-shot arriving December 27, written by Ben Acker and Ben Blacker (Star Wars: Join The Resistance) with art by Mike Mayhew (Star Wars, The Star Wars). The comic rewinds to the Galactic Civil War, following Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia Organa as they take up arms on the salt-covered world and search for a new rebel base."
Let us know in the comments below, what you think this comic will be about!

Journey to The Last Jedi | Canto Bight
Starwars.com revealed the cover for the highly anticipated Canto Bight book featuring four short stories told by authors Saladin Ahmed, Rae Carson, Mira Grant, and John Jackson Miller. The interconnected stories will center around characters in the casino-city of Canto Bight that will feature in The Last Jedi.
Starwars.com revealed the cover for the highly anticipated Canto Bight book that will feature four short stories told by authors Saladin Ahmed, Rae Carson, Mira Grant, and John Jackson Miller. The four interconnected stories, that will likely take place right before TLJ, will centre around new characters in the casino-city of Canto Bight.
Saladin Ahmed - “Rules of the Game”
Rae Carson - “Hear Nothing, See Nothing, Say Nothing”
Mira Grant - “The Wine in Dreams"
John Jackson Miler, “The Ride”
Canto Bight will be available on December 5th, 2017 and joins Star Wars: Phasma, Leia: Princess of Alderann, The Legends of Luke Skywalker, and Cobalt Squadron in the Journey to The Last Jedi line of books.
Artist: Matt Taylor
The four authors also released some insights into their stories via starwars.com.
Saladin Ahmed, “Rules of the Game”
“‘Rules of the Game’ is a quiet drama about work and crime and corruption and pecking order, but it’s also an alien buddy comedy with explosives. Interplanetary contract criminal Anglang Lehet and Vaporator Salesbeing Kedpin Shoklop have led very different lives. They have one thing in common: Each of them has spent more than a century following the rules of his trade. But one night in the glittering casino city of Canto Bight their paths will cross and, beset by gangsters, corrupt cops, and overpriced drinks, they will have to rely on each other to have any hope to survive.”
Rae Carson, “Hear Nothing, See Nothing, Say Nothing”
“No one is better placed to overhear key information than Lexo Sooger, the star masseuse at an elite spa. But Lexo never gets involved, no matter what. In a dangerous city like Canto Bight, it’s the only way to keep his family safe. But vile gangster Big Sturg Ganna will stop at nothing to acquire him as an asset, and when Ganna kidnaps Lexo’s daughter, Lexo must call on secret, long-unused abilities to save her. The gangster doesn’t know it yet, but he has messed with the wrong masseuse.
I spent a big chunk of my childhood in poverty, so I know that even the most beautiful, lavish places have an underclass, people barely scraping by in a system stacked against them. When I saw Lexo, a fantastically realized alien creature doing hard labor, surrounded by luxury that’s never truly his, I just had to know more. For me, Lexo is Canto Bight’s everyman, and I’m so glad I got to write his story.”
The eclectic patrons of Canto Bight, the casino-city featured in The Last Jedi.
Mira Grant, “The Wine in Dreams”
“There’s nothing better than a good con game, except for maybe a con game that takes place in the Star Wars universe. My story takes you to the glamorous night life and the glittering world of Ubialla Gheal, whose club is the place to see and be seen in Canto Bight. A lot of business happens there. A lot of deals. But when Derla Pidys, one of the most renowned liquor traders in the galaxy, shows up to purchase a bottle of wine that may or may not come from another dimension, things get complicated, fast. It was a joy to write, and I think you’re going to enjoy it.”
John Jackson Miler, “The Ride”
“What do you do when everything you think you know is upended at precisely the wrong time? ‘The Ride’ is some of the best fun I’ve had writing a Star Wars story, combining a look at gaming within the Star Wars universe with an adventure loaded with humorous moments. It’s a chance to wallow in casino life, surrounded by memorable characters. The Lucky Three (Plus One) is more than a starting pazaak hand — it’s a formula for a wild ride!
With statistics as his Force and card combinations as his lightsaber, Kaljach Sonmi fancies himself a Jedi Knight of the gambling halls, making short work of all who oppose him. Until, that is, he encounters something none of his knowledge and experience can help him with: The Lucky Three, a notorious trio and terrors of the casino.
Suddenly, with fearsome members of the Canto Bight underworld breathing down his neck, Kal launches upon the craziest — and possibly last! — night of his life, a frenetic odyssey during which fortunes are lost, won, and lost again. He’s drawing dead with a deadline, and his only outs may be three diminutive lunatics named Dodi, Thodi, and Wobi!”
